"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow." John Dewey
Below you will find links to resources discussed during class on February 5, 2011.
Clay Yourself- A fun avatar site that I just learned about over on my Diigo Education account. Check out my first attempt!!! It allows you to create a clay-like image. It is very intuitive and does have a little squirrel that "helps" you along the way! The only potential issue is that when completed the site will ask the user if he/she would like to submit it to win weekly prizes from the sponsor site which is hotel.com. This section will request email information, etc. There is the option to skip that section. It will easily download as a Jpeg - simply click download and then right click and "save image as". I do think students and teachers alike will enjoy this option!
Storybird- the latest addition to this wonderful site is the ability for teachers to create student/classroom accounts for FREE!! This is amazing!!
Google Art Project- a unique collaboration with some of the world’s most acclaimed art museums to enable people to discover and view more than a thousand artworks online in extraordinary detail. Basically its Google Street view inside various art museums. You can move around the halls and explore all the artwork in detail. ver the last 18 months Google has worked with 17 art museums including, Altes Nationalgalerie, The Freer Gallery of Art Smithsonian, National Gallery (London), The Frick Collection, Gemäldegalerie, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, Museo Reina Sofia, Museo Thyseen – Bornemisza, Museum Kampa, Palace of Versailles, Rijksmuseum, The State Hermitage Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery, Tate, Uffizi and Van Gogh Museum. Click here to view two videos on how to use this site- they are You Tube videos so please be aware that they will not work in school!
ZimmerTwins- a site devoted to kids and creative storytelling- it invites children to create and share their own animated stories. You will need to create an account to save your stories.
The Constitution Center- offers an amazing interactive activity called Abraham Lincoln’s Crossroads This activity takes you on Abraham Lincoln’s political journey in a very unique, informative and educational format- complete with audio so make sure your speakers are turned up. It chronicles Lincoln’s political decisions during his Presidency. This activity also displays well using the SMARTBoard.
Apple Apps for Education- With thousands of Apps now available this is a page of some of the favorite educational Apps.
Modern Marvels- this is a website sponsored by the History Channel and offers short videos on several interesting inventions, topics of modern history. It is based on the television series. Below is a video of Suthor Sicard, the inventor of the first snowblower in 1925!
